Understanding Middle School Sports
Thank you for your interest in middle school sports at Marsteller Middle School. I would like to give some basic information on what you and your child will need to participate in our programs.
Paper work: Sports Physical- This is done by you and a doctor, it must be on the PWC MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION/PARENT CONSENT EXAMINATION FORM. It must be dated after May 1, 2016 and is valid for the entire school year. (THIS IS NOT THE HEALTH/SHOT RECORDS THAT HAVE TO BE TURNED IN TO THE NURSE FOR 6th GRADERS OR NEW STUDENTS). Physicals should be turned in before try-outs begin on the first day of try-outs or at coaches meetings. Periodically check your school’s website as your school may offer physicals over the summer.
Emergency Card- This is in case of injury. These are sport specific, meaning one has to be filled out for each sport and again given to the coach on the first day of try-outs or at coaches meeting. This is not the 8x11 emergency card that goes home in the first day of school homeroom packet.
Concussion Training- 6th graders and any student who has never done a face to face session must Complete the Middle School face-to-face training, 7th and 8th graders can do online if they have already attended a previous face to face session.

Try-outs will be 3 team days (3:00-4:55), not individual days. If your son/daughter misses 1 day of try-outs then they can participate the other two days. They should be at as many days as possible as coaches evaluate different skills each day. Only girls and boys basketball have Junior varsity teams. These teams are restricted to 6th and 7th graders only; the rest of the sports coaches will select the top athletes from all three grade levels. There are no requirements to keep any number of kids from any grade level. If your son/daughter makes a team then they practice every day after school from 3-4:55. ATHLETES MUST BE IN SCHOOL FOR HALF A DAY to practice or participate in games.
GAMES: Playing time is not required except for JV teams where 12 players must play and even then there is no time requirement. Students stay after school with coaches on game days and transportation is provided to and from games. PARENTS MAY ONLY TAKE THEIR SON/DAUGHTER HOME FROM AWAY GAMES. Games are held only on school days, no weekends (except regional wrestling). If you have any questions contact
They are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 2:50-4:50. Participants need to be here each day as they will do different events each day. Rides need to be here by 4:50 or make plans for kids to ride the activity buses.
Do to the calling of cool weather, students are encouraged to bring warm clothes for try-outs. Also please do not buy any specialty equipment (shoes, cleats, bats, gloves) until the team is selected.
